Have you always fancied trying you hand at quilting? Want to make your own works of art in fabric? Look no further than the Sew Confident Quilting for Beginners class!
You will learn all about the different tools, cutting techniques, different layouts, pressing techniques and how to line everything up and sew it perfectly, and loads more!
In this one day class we will be making at least 2 samples, including half square triangles which we will quilt and bind giving you all the skills to go and and make a larger quilt at home. The patchwork and main quilting elements are done using the sewing machine but some hand finishing techniques are also included.
Some prior sewing experience is necessary but you only need very basic sewing skills such as completing our beginners sewing course, if you are unsure get in touch!
What To Bring:
5 x Fat Quarters of various prints
1/2 metre non stretch fabric such as cotton for binding
1 metres non stretch backing fabric such as cotton
1m wadding/batting
Thread colours as desired.
Pack of quilting/curved safety pins
We now have quilting fabrics available in the shop that can be cut into fat quarters for you so please get in touch if you would like us to help you with all the materials. We also sell a whole range of quilting accessories that you can pick up on the day if you need them!
*There is also a lovely cafe within Morris park which is open 8-5pm Mon-Sat if you want to treat yourself to some lunch, the cafe is closed on Sundays though so if your class is on a Sunday we would advise bringing along a packed lunch as options are limited.
If you fancy the project then absolutely! We sometimes get people coming along to class as a wee confidence boost after a break from the hobby, or if you want to sew with company it can be a great way to meet new like minded people!
If you have never sewn before you should jump on our Beginners Sewing Class to give you the basic skills required to then jump on the quilting class. In this quilting class we don't teach you how to use the sewing machine and need you to have a few sewing projects under you belt before joining. But the good news is you can do this beginners quilting class immediately after completing our beginners class!
You will learn both! Patchwork is when you take piece of fabric and sew them together to make a larger piece of fabric and the quilting is when you sew through layers of fabric and batting/wadding.
